Creation of Earth City
Welcome back to the enchanting world of Victoria VR, where we’ve been unveiling its breathtaking regions over the past few weeks. First, we took you to Wood City, where the roots of nature grow ever stronger, and the atmosphere is peaceful. Then, we ventured to Fire City, where the Red Phoenix saved its people from the looming threat of famine. And today, get ready to be captivated by Earth City, the oldest region in our world. It is nestled in the north-east and south-west prosperous and fertile land in Victoria. In Feng Shui, Earth is associated with numbers two, five, and eight, and the people of the element are great orators, historians, and readers. It also represents stability and balance. All of this is reflected in the design choices we made during our creative process.
Today we will focus solely on the part located in the north-east part of Victoria. As you step in, you’ll be greeted by a stunning landscape painted in hues of yellow, brown, and turquoise — colors that symbolize this element according to Feng Shui. It is surrounded by mountains, and the number eight, which is associated with this region, can be seen everywhere. There are eight mountains, eight bridges, eight fortress towers surrounding this area and eight libraries. The city is divided into two parts by a river with a bridge connecting them.
The city’s charm lies in its medieval appearance inspired by the southern Italian province, Matera, which is full of historic stone houses and caves. The buildings there are incredibly grounded and connected to Earth, as this element stands for stability. The picturesque castle that dominates the region was also carefully designed according to the plans of real medieval castles.
Libraries where wise sages preserve their knowledge and philosophies for future generations are what really set this place apart. Past and present meet in harmony here and a mysterious presence can be felt in the winding streets. It is home to many brave people, who seek a long, healthy, and peaceful life.
The story that players can experience in the Earth City is told from the perspective of a 168-year-old wise man who saved the citizens from the demons that once plagued the region. Using his knowledge of herbs, he searched for a natural remedy to fight them. He meditated for eight days and had a vision of a wise owl guiding him to a mountain filled with crystals. He awoke from the trance and climbed this mountain peak. He came upon an entrance to a hidden ancient library where he found instructions for healing potions and crystals that would force the demons back into the castle’s dungeons. However, the fight is not over as these monsters still pose a threat. The sage has cast runes at the castle entrances to prevent them from escaping, and the player is invited to join him on his quest. Yet another threat exists in the caves under the mountain, where the knowledge and help of the player will be further required.
Earth City was designed firstly through brainstorming sessions and sketches. After the initial ideas were established, Blender was used to create the Graybox of the city’s main volumes. From there, specific areas were modelled in more detail, with textures added with Substance Painter. All natural elements such as cliffs, stones, and plants were placed by hand. The landscape was sculpted piece by piece to meet the artistic goals. Once this was established, Unreal Engine was used to test playability. What resulted is a remarkable immersive experience for the player, who will be able to interact with the space created as well as participate in the gameplay and quests. We are quite optimistic about this region in our Victoria VR Metaverse, and we are certain that it will be an engaging place for our players to explore.
