Unreal Engine 4 vs Unreal Engine 5
We are pleased to announce that we are making a full transition from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5 for the development of our Victoria VR Metaverse. The release of Unreal Engine 5 brought monumental improvements that provide us with a large set of intelligent tools to create the most high-quality graphics imaginable. What is notable about many of the features of Unreal Engine 5 is their ability to save us large amounts of time, so that we can focus on our creativity and so that we can bring you the immersive Victoria VR World that we have been dreaming of as fast as possible.
The first aspect that we are incredibly excited about is the World Partition System, which allows for the world to exist at a single level, thus making it easier to handle large-scale worlds. This is useful as we are building an immersive metaverse that requires a large amount of data. World Partition saves us a significant amount of time and memory storage, and it enables developers to work on the same level at the same time.
Another key component in this software is Enhanced Input, which presents upgrades from the default input system from Unreal Engine 4. This plugin allows for more control over the player inputs and behaviors. We are thrilled about Enhanced Input as it helps us to easily manage online, local, and multi-player input systems.
Unreal Engine 5 unleashes the potential to create graphics and visuals like never before, with the help of a new physics system, animation tools, visual effects, as well as an array of rendering features. Chaos Physics is the new physics engine that brings more authentic and interactive physics simulations, particularly for destruction effects and dynamic simulations. In addition, we are enthusiastic about the set of animation tools provided. These make it easier for us to introduce dynamic characters within our game with life-like motion and behavior.
Another advantage of switching to Unreal Engine 5 is the utility of Niagara, the new particle visual effects system that replaces Cascade. Niagara has a more user-friendly interface, with updated nodes and components, intuitive settings, and improved debugging capabilities. Our developers are utilizing Niagara Fluids, a component that creates realistic smoke and fire effects.
Unreal Engine 5 has a global illumination model called Lumen which boosts the overall visual quality of the gaming graphics. It enhances an environment by reacting to scene and light changes, thus creating a more realistic visual setting through illumination and reflections. The quality of visuals is heightened even further through Nanite Virtualized Geometry. This system allows developers to form a scene with incredible detail, saving huge amounts of time by processing only the data that you can perceive from the source art that was originally imported.
Audio rendering has also seen a makeover through MetaSounds, an audio system promoting improved workflow and increased performance. This allows audio designers to create a more immersive sonic experience for players.
The software has upgrades for profiling and optimization tools, allowing us to make sure our content runs properly in the best quality possible. Unreal Insights, GPUDump Viewer Tool, and RenderDoc are all useful in this process.
Unreal Engine 5 offers countless features that save massive amounts of time in our game development. Therefore, we have more freedom for creativity and at the same time, we can deliver the Victoria VR World that we have been promising faster and more efficiently than ever.
